I love taking an old tired looking piece of furniture and giving it a new look and a new life. My father once brought me an old night stand that was pretty badly stained and in rough shape to see if I was interested in keeping it. Knowing my dad, he got it for free so I gladly accepted and it’s sat in it’s original not so pretty condition for several years. Finally, I made the time to give it a makeover and here’s how it turned out.
Below you can see how it looked in it’s original condition. When I started this project, I took the night stand apart to clean it and see exactly what I would be working with. I discovered that it was a really well crafted piece of furniture made in America which always makes me happy. My friend Breanne at Over The One Lane Bridge uses chalk paint a lot so I decided to give it a try. I used Americana chalk paint in Lace. The beauty of chalk paint is that you don’t have to apply a primer before painting, but in this case because it was so badly stained I pretreated it with Americana Decor’s Stain Blocker/Sealer so I would be sure the stains didn’t bleed through.
A cute new drawer knob and it’s new home is now in my master bedroom. It works perfectly and I know my dad would be proud that I’m using it.
